The situation in Port-au-Prince continues to worsen. Gangs keep invading new neighborhoods, forcing the population to flee. During the month of November, in less than 10 days, more than 41,000 people were forced to leave their homes. The gangs attack without reason and without mercy. They have recently burned and destroyed much of the equipment of one of the main hospitals in the capital. Amid all this, our neighborhood remains a place of refuge for many refugees. Kainos has been able to welcome 30 children from an orphanage and their accompanying adults, who found themselves once again close to gunfire from the gangs. We were also able to host an organization for a time of rest, and we remain open to offer a place of refuge and peace.
In the midst of all this, the community center Espérance has continued to welcome parents each week, and this Thursday, we even organized a Christmas party there. It’s beautiful to see our staff take on more responsibilities, lead biblical teaching sessions, and organize playtime. We take pride in seeing all they have learned alongside us and all they can pass on to others. Wanguerre takes care of the buildings, infrastructure, and logistics, and on top of that, he continues to study online at university. Samuel studies theology and takes the time to give biblical teachings every Thursday. Cherlin manages purchases and takes care of restocking food supplies. Suzette, Jovani, and Beatrice prepare meals for the staff and for parents every Thursday at the community center. Together, they ensure our spaces remain clean and welcoming. Our team is our most precious asset, which is why we decided to give them a Christmas gift that will allow them to rest and recharge.
