Prayer Room, Discipleship, Dental Care, and Kingdom Life in the Favelas.

Written by Emma Barros

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever! Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever! Give thanks to the Lord of lords. His love endures forever! Psalm 136-1:3

During the month of August, we started a Prayer Room in Complexo do Alemão, one of the largest favelas in the city of Rio de Janeiro, a place of vulnerability and violence, but a place where the Kingdom of God has been manifested. At the Iris Rio base we understand that we are called to serve the city, entering dark places and manifesting the Kingdom of God and His justice. In Complexo do Alemão it is no different. In addition to the prayer room that takes place once a week, we also do biweekly discipleship with some children from the community, where we teach the gospel and demonstrate God's love and the value of His living word in a practical way. In August, we held an oral health prevention event, where we offered free dental care to the children in the community, and during the sessions we ministered to them about God's care and zeal.

In August, we also had an incredible time in the Pavuna community with at-risk girls who live in the neighboring community called Acari. A challenging place, where the Kingdom of God has been manifested. These meetings take place monthly and we are there instructing the children about preventing child sexual abuse, sexuality, and teaching them how to behave according to the scriptures.

It was an incredible month of immense grace and mercy from the Lord.
